Reducing Drywall Dust

Hanging and Finishing new Drywall will always create a certain amount of dust.  Many people are allergic to drywall dust and aim to minimize it as much as possible. In this article, I will cover some of the things that a professional remodeling contractor should do to make your project run smoothly.    When finishing drywall in a furnished home, make sure to change your air filter frequently throughout the remodeling process. If you have a return air vent in the room that is being remodeled you should make sure the vent is not pulling drywall dust into your HVAC system. This is when the dust can really get out of hand. Not to mention the harm done to your HVAC system.  If you are doing a basement finish, it may be better to keep the return blocked off until the drywall has been completed.   There are a couple of different methods to finishing drywall. If you are doing a project on the main floor, such a kitchen remodeling or bathroom remodeling you may want to consider wet sanding. This will require a little extra sanding time but is an effective way to minimize drywall dust.  A skilled worker can get by doing less sanding than that of a worker with less experience. Having specialty equipment like a dustless drywall sander will also aid greatly in reducing your dust.
